Cleanroom L107 Gowning

Cleanroom Entry

1. Before going into the cleanroom:

  • Make sure you are wearing shoes that fully enclose the feet (no sandals, sling backs) and pants/clothing that fully covers the legs (no shorts)
  • Remove any cosmetics (they generate particles and stain hoods)
  • Make sure you have everything you need with you to work in the lab and that it is all cleanroom-compatible.

2. In the hallway OUTSIDE of the gowning room:

  • Step on the blue sticky mat to clean your shoes.
  • Put on shoe covers.
  • Put on hairnet.  Make sure all your hair is covered.
  • Beard cover is required for covering facial hair and also for covering a
  • Face mask is optional.
  • Log onto the Lab Management system.

3. Enter the Gowning Room.  You may place your personal belongings in the pass-through while you are badging in and retrieve it once you are inside the gowning room.

4. Put on gloves, then gown up. Don the bunnysuit, working from your head down to your feet, in the following order:

  1. Hood. Snap under the neck.
  2. Suit. Hold the sleeves and body up to keep them from touching the floor.
  3. Booties. These are optional if you are not going to be using the wet benches.  If the suit legs are too long, use snap bracelets around your ankles to secure them.
Then:
  • Tuck the hood into the neck of the suit.
  • Tuck suit legs into the tops of the booties.
  • Fasten bootie snaps and clips.
  • Put on lab glasses.
  • Check yourself in the mirror. Make sure everything is tucked in, zipped up, and snapped.
     
  • Take any other materials you have brought in to the gowning room wipedown station. Use an alcohol wipe and cleanroom wipes to wipe any dust or debris from all surfaces.
  • Label your materials (wafer boxes, tweezer boxes, etc.) with your name and email. A Dymo label maker and sharpie pens are available in the gowning room.

Exiting the Cleanroom

1.Before leaving the cleanroom

  • Make sure to clean up; leave stations neat and ready for the next person to use. Remove personal items from general-use areas after you are done processing.
  • Any materials you plan on taking out of the lab should be bagged to prevent contamination. A vacuum sealer and sealer bags are available inside of the lab. Zip-loc bags are available throughout the lab and in the gowning room.

2. In the Gowning room

Remove your bunnysuit from the bottom, up, in the reverse order:

  1. Booties, if used.
  2. Suit. Keep the sleeves, main body, and as much of the suit as possible, off the floor.
  3. Hood.

3. Place your gown, hood, and safety glasses in your assigned cubby. If you have booties, place them in a SEPARATE bag.

4. Exit to the corridor. Throw away your hair net, gloves, and shoe covers outside of the gowning room.
